Coefficients on an Arc

Problem

In a circular sector AOBAOB, OA=OB=1OA = OB = 1 and ∠AOB=π3\angle AOB = \dfrac{\pi}{3}. A point CC on the arc ABAB (excluding the endpoints) is written as

OC→=xOA→+yOB→.\overrightarrow{OC} = x\overrightarrow{OA} + y\overrightarrow{OB}.

1. Find the range of possible values of x+yx + y. 2. If t=x+λyt = x + \lambda y attains a maximum value as CC varies, find the range of possible values of λ\lambda.
