Equal Ratios of Logs

Problem

Let f(x)=ln⁡xf(x) = \ln x and g(x)=exg(x) = \mathrm{e}^x.

1. Find the intervals on which y=f(x)−xy = f(x) - x is monotonic. 2. Prove that on the common domain of ff and gg,

g(x)−f(x)>2.g(x) - f(x) > 2.
  1. If there exist two distinct real numbers x1,x2x_1, x_2 with
f(x1)x1=f(x2)x2=a,\frac{f(x_1)}{x_1} = \frac{f(x_2)}{x_2} = a,

prove that x1x2e2>1\dfrac{x_1 x_2}{\mathrm{e}^2} > 1.
