A Cosine Difference Maximum

Problem

Let f(x)=5cos⁡x−cos⁡(5x)f(x)=5\cos x-\cos(5x).

1. Find the maximum value of f(x)f(x) on [0,π4]\left[0,\dfrac{\pi}4\right]. 2. Given θ∈(0,π)\theta\in(0,\pi) and a real number aa, prove that there exists y∈[a−θ,a+θ]y\in[a-\theta,a+\theta] with cos⁡y⩽cos⁡θ\cos y\leqslant\cos\theta. 3. If there exists φ∈R\varphi\in\mathbb R such that 5cos⁡x−cos⁡(5x+φ)⩽b5\cos x-\cos(5x+\varphi)\leqslant b for all xx, find the minimum value of bb.
